In 2007, Amber Lambke and Michael Scholz were inspired by local farmers and bakers willing to grow and use local grain. They decided that a regional grain economy required a mill. So Amber and Michael embarked to meet that need by founding the Somerset Grist mill, now Maine Grains, Inc.
Five years later on September 8th, 2012, Maine Grains celebrated its grand opening in Skowhegan, Maine. After endless research and business development the facility started the milling equipment and received its first shipments of Maine-grown grain.
Today, Maine Grains has milled more than 10,000,000 pounds of Northeast-grown Grain. It sells delicious, freshly milled products to bakers, chefs, breweries, and institutions in the Northeast. Maine Grains works to fulfill a mission to provide a strong, positive community impact by creating jobs and improving land utilization. It serves as a successful model of local economic growth focused on a holistic food chain. Maine Grains grows so that business can be used as a force for good in Skowhegan, and the Northeast.
